Harlow Town Twinning Association
A new town established in December 1955 from the mergence and subsequent development of seven villages, the town was conceived as a housing and cultural centre to support the established industrial and mining region to the north. Click for view from Republic Square
It is the youngest town in the Czech Republic, set in a plain with the river Lucina meandering through the country side and possessing two dams, popular for holidays. The land rises to the foot hills of the Beskydy Mountains where skiing is a winter pursuit. The climate is generally mild with long summers and short winters.
A population of just over 80,000 is spread over an area of 3200 hectares with excellent communications by road and rail. The town was built on a grid arrangement with a green zones policy, so that parks, playgrounds and grass verges abound between dwellings. Within 100km are many centres of historical or cultural interest.
